The runner was a world-class athlete and a good sister to the Kelly Holmes brothers.

Kelly Holmes faced numerous challenges as a single mother at a young age,

but it didn’t stop her from being maternal toward the Kelly Holmes siblings raised by her stepfather Michael Norris.

Holmes, as the oldest sibling, took on a maternal role in rearing her two younger brothers, Kevin and Stewart.

Kelly frequently found herself changing their nappies and

assisting with their everyday requirements, despite the fact that they were eight and 10 years apart in age.

Kelly was also a good sister to her two younger sisters, Penny and Lisa.

Kelly also volunteered to teach her younger brothers how to ride a bike.

She claims she didn’t teach them because she would just push them and let go, forcing them to collide with a wall.

This method, however, was successful, as Kevin and Stewart quickly learned to ride independently.

Kelly Holmes was born in a Kent village to a 17-year-old single mother.

Her father abandoned her when she was a baby, leaving her mother to raise her as a mixed-race child.

The family’s condition was not easy, but Kelly’s mother showed strength and tenacity in conquering their difficulties.

Kelly spent some time at a children’s home when she was three or four years old.

Although this was a tough period for her family,

Kelly was too young to properly appreciate the situation, and it had little impact on her.

Kelly’s mother remarried a guy named Mick, whom she considers her father when she was four years old.

Kelly and her two younger brothers were reared on a council estate in Kent, and despite being from a working-class family, they worked hard to care for their children.

Kelly Holmes’s Childhood

Kelly began her athletics training at the age of 12 with Tonbridge Athletics Club,

where she was coached by David Arnold.

She won the English Schools 1,500 meters event in her second season with the club in 1983.

Kelly was inspired by British middle-distance runner Steve Ovett, who won gold at the Summer Olympics in 1980.

Kelly joined the British Army at the age of 18, despite a promising start in sports.

She had left school two years earlier to work at a candy shop and afterward as a nursing assistant for challenged patients.
