She was married to Richard at the time, while John was married to Esperanza Baur, a well-known Mexican actress. However, fate brought them together when she encountered him for the second time later that year in Los Angeles, California, and they fell in love and began dating.

On the same day that John’s divorce was finalized, November 1, 1954, the pair exchanged wedding vows in Kona, Hawaii – she even won a part in his picture, albeit the role was uncredited.

Speaking about her personal life after John Wayne’s death, Pilar married Stephen Stewart, an American municipal court judge, in 1984, but they divorced in 1997. In the following year, she tied the knot with American businessman and travel firm CEO Jesse L. Upchurch, but they also divorced, in 2010.

When it comes to her work in the entertainment world, Pilar Pallete is best known for her marriage to Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker John Wayne. In 1952, she met him as he was investigating settings for his directorial debut picture “The Alamo” in Tingo Mara, Peru.

Pilar had no intention of publishing a biography of her late husband at first, but she changed her mind after learning that several authors had already published biographies, although none of them knew John as well as she did.

As a result, Pilar co-wrote the autobiography “John Wayne: My Life With The Duke” with Alex Thorleifson, which was released in October 1987.

The book includes an account of her marriage with the famed actor and filmmaker, and in addition she made guest-starring appearances in such films as “John Wayne Standing Tall”, “Biography”, “The Personal Property of John Wayne”, among many others.
