Rachel met her first spouse while still in college and still trying to find out her body – she married John P. McLish on February 3, 1979, but the couple split soon after for unclear reasons. The majority of her followers believe the two broke up due to jealousy, however, this has yet to be proved.

Rachel married for the second time in 1990, and she is still married to Ron Samuels, a well-known film producer. They currently reside in Rancho Mirage, California, and have no children; they formerly owned a $3 million home that they sold to Coco Crisp, a popular Boston Red Sox player.

Rachel McLish’s bodybuilding career began while she was still in college, when she began working at a health club in McAllen, Texas, with whom she created a partnership. Rachel was coming to the gym every day and progressively improving her physique – her role model was Lisa Lyon, and the gym’s manager, Javier Gutierrez, was showing her images of female bodybuilders she was going to compete against.

Rachel wanted to compete professionally after being inspired by their appearance and believing that she could be just as excellent as them. Her first competition came in 1980, when she won the first United States Championships and the IFBB Ms. Olympia competition in the same year.

Rachel became highly popular as a result of her triumph, as she appeared on the cover pages of fitness publications more than any other woman for the next four years.

After she signed her contract with Dynamics Health Equipment Manufacturing Corporation, there was nothing stopping Rachel from becoming the best female bodybuilder in the world. She is recognized with boosting female bodybuilding’s appeal by inspiring a large number of women to compete.

Rachel has never finished lower than third place in any of the competitions she has competed in; she finished second at Ms. Olympia in 1981, then won the 1982 to reclaim her title. Rachel finished second in both the 1983 Caesar’s World Cup and the 1984 Ms. Olympia, however she opted to stop participating after the 1984 Ms. Olympia. She was formally admitted into the IFBB Hall of Fame in January 1999.

Rachel has appeared in the documentaries “Pumping Iron II: The Women” (1985), “Getting Physical” (1984), “Aces: Iron Eagle III” (1992), and “Raven Hawk” (1996), despite not being an actress.
