Ray, of Furze Hill Road, Shanklin, fought on the pro circuit as a welterweight between 1962 and 1975, during a golden age of the sport in which he competed alongside Henry Cooper, John Conteh, Joe Bugner, and Terry Downes.
He used to play golf with ‘Our ‘Enry’ and Conteh on occasion.
He was born in the London borough of Battersea.
