Rishi Sunak is a British politician who has served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer since 2020. Before becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer, he was a member of the Conservative Party and served as Chief Secretary to the Treasurer. Since 2015, he has served in the House of Commons.

Between 2001 to 2004, Rishi Sunak worked as an analyst at the investment bank Golden Sachs. After that, he worked as a hedge fund manager for The Children’s Investment Fund Management.

Rishi was appointed as a Chief Secretary to the Treasurer by Prime Minister Theresa May on July 24, 2019, and he worked under Chancellor Sajid Javid till February 2020. By February 2020, it was reported that Javid will retain his position as Chancellor and Rishi would retain his position as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Rishi was named Chancellor of the Exchequer on February 13, 2020, after Javid resigned from his job. On the same day that he was named Chancellor, Rishi met with the Prime Minister. Rishi’s first budget was presented on March 11, 2020, and it comprised a budget of 30 billion euros, 12 billion of which was set aside to mitigate the economic impact of the Covid -19.

Rishi stated that 330 billion euros would be spent on emergency company support as well as salary subsidies. The retention plan, which was unveiled on March 20, 2020, was the first time the British government had formed one.

Rishi stated in 2021 that the deficit had increased to 355 billion euros till the scheme’s termination in September. Since Healey in 1974, Rishi was the first Chancellor to hike the corporation tax rate.
