Important Salvadoran poet, author, and leftist political figure who is best known for such poetic works as El mar, Los testimonios, and La Ventana en el rostro. His essays include “Cesar Vallejo,” “El Salvador (monografia),” and “Un Libro Rojo para Lenin.” Roque Dalton was born on May 14, 1935, in San Salvador, El Salvador. He studied law at the Universidad de Chile and also attended classes taught by artist Diego Rivera. He attended a Salvadoran Jesuit school.
