Early Years

Hound was elected as a Student Representative and was instrumental in the establishment of the college radio station. 

In addition, he began working for a public relations firm but began performing in the evenings.

Later, in 2000, he left his job as an account executive for Claire’s Accessories to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian full-time.

For the first time, he used the stage name ‘Rufus Hound’ while performing at the Edinburgh Festival.

Career

Rufus hosted Destination Three, which covered the Glastonbury Festival and Top of the Pops in 2005 and 2006.

He has also appeared on a number of comedy shows and quiz shows, including Street Cred Sudoku, Nevermind the Buzzcocks, and Celebrity Juice, where he was a regular panelist. 

He narrated the series Rocket Science in 2009.

He has appeared on Richard & Judy and The Apprentice: You’re Fired. 

In addition, he replaced Anne Robinson as the host of Outtlake TV on BBC1.

Similarly, he has hosted a BBC Radio Four program called My Teenage Diary since 2012, in which celebrities discuss the diaries they kept as teenagers.

On 22 February 2016, he made his debut as a panelist on BBC Radio 4’s Just A Minute, alongside regular Paul Merton and semi-regulars Pam Ayres and Graham Norton.

Rufus contributed vocals to The Skints’ track “Tazer Beam” from their album FM in March 2015.

Rufus made his feature film debut in Ricky Grover’s direct-to-DVD film Big Fat Gypsy Gangster. 

He appeared in the 2012 film The Weeding Video.

From October 2012 to February 2013, he played the lead role of Francis Henshall in the National Theatre’s second touring production of One Man, Two Gunvours.

After out-of-town tryouts in Manchester and Aylesbury, Hound landed the lead role of Freddie in the West End production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

In the world premieres of The Wind in the Willows in Plymouth, Salford, and Southampton, he played Toad.

In 2021, he will play Tom Good in the UK tour of The Good Life, based on the BBC sitcom.

Politics

Rufus campaigned for the Liberal Democrats in the 2010 general election before switching to the Labour Party.

Rufus was also the fifth candidate on the list of the National Health Action Party, which finished ninth with 23,253 votes.

Hound has endorsed Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign for Labour Party leadership.
