On February 21, 2018, he took part in a CNN town hall with lawmakers, during which he asked Senator Marco Rubio, “Why do we have to march… to save innocent lives?”

Ryan, along with Cameron Kasky and David Hogg, were interviewed by Harvard Political Review.

Ryan said during a news conference in Tallahassee that he was the president and creator of his school’s improv club.

He added that he did not have a prepared speech but believed that his experience in the club would assist him in communicating his beliefs.

Ryan admitted that, as a senior in high school, he is undecided about what course of action to take. 

“I just know what we’re doing currently isn’t nearly enough… If I have to keep watching my buddies die… This is not what America deserves.”

Ryan routinely utilizes social media to voice his thoughts and opinions regarding events at his school. 

“We are the generation that was born after Columbine,” he explained. “We have lived with this our entire lives.”

He claimed that as early as fifth grade, he was compelled to hide in a lavatory due to a nearby gunshot. 

“We’re done concealing… “America has come out of hiding.”

Nominations and Awards

On November 20th, 2018, the International Children’s Peace Prize was awarded to the Parkland kids who launched a statewide campaign to raise awareness about gun violence in the aftermath of a devastating school shooting.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu presented the awards in Cape Town, South Africa.
