Ryan Lochte Scandal: What Did He Do? Details of the Rio de Janeiro Robbery Case

Ryan Lochte

Because of the controversy surrounding Ryan Lochte, the Olympic Committee suspended him. With 12 medals, Ryan Lochte is the most decorated swimmer in Olympic history, trailing only fellow American Michael Phelps. Ryan The record is also held by Natalie Coughlin, Dara Torres, and Jenny Thompson. However, following the infamous “Lochtegate,” he was suspended indefinitely and fired by all of his main sponsors.

Ryan Lochte lied about a Rio de Janeiro robbery.

The 32-year-old Ryan Lochte claimed that he, Jimmy Feigen, Jack Conger, and Gunnar Bentz were robbed at gunpoint in a cab while returning home after a party.

Lochte discussed the evening’s events with N.B.C.’s Today.

They only had the badge and no further equipment. After being pulled over, the suspected thieves pulled out their weapons and told the other athletes to get down on the ground.

While the others agreed, he refused because he thought they had done nothing wrong.

One of the men then pulled out his rifle and aimed it at Lochte’s brow.

He then took a seat and raised his hands. “He [the mugger] took our money, my wallet—he left my cellphone, he left my credentials,” added Lochte.

However, shortly after the interview, Brazilian Police admitted that the tale was fabricated. “There was no robbery committed against these athletes.” “They were not victims of what they claimed,” said Civil Police Chief Fernando Veloso at a press conference.

CCTV footage, according to Veloso, shows one swimmer ripping a sign off a wall and dumping it to the ground.

Bentz and Conger, according to the A.P., alerted Brazilian authorities that Lochte’s explanation was false.

During the event, two guards waved firearms at the swimmers.

Veloso refused to confirm the report, but he said say the guards’ actions were justified because the players “were violently conducting themselves.”
