Scott Holtzman – Professional Career

Holtzman’s professional mixed martial arts career began in 2009.

He had an undefeated amateur record of 4-0, and his final fight earned him a contract with the Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC).

Holtzman made his professional debut in front of a home crowd in Knoxville, Tennessee, defeating Brandon Demastes via rear-naked choke at XFC16: High Stakes.

He would go on to win his next two fights, both in the first round, against Matt Metts (XFC 18: Music City Mayhem) and Chris Coggins (XFC 20: High Octane).

Holtzman began 2013 with a unanimous decision victory over Jason Hicks in a title elimination match at XFC 22: Crossing The Line.

Holtzman was supposed to face then-XFC Lightweight champion Nick Newell for the Lightweight title after his match with Hicks.

It was reported in May 2013 that Newell had refused to fight Holtzman.

According to XFC president John Prisco, Newell hoped to face former UFC fighters in order to stake his claim for a promotion to the UFC.

Prisco, on the other hand, believed Holtzman had “earned the right” to battle Newell for the title.

Prisco stripped Newell of his belt and placed Holtzman against John Mahlow to compete for the vacant Lightweight belt at XFC 24: Collision Course after Newell declined to face Holtzman.

Holtzman won the XFC Lightweight Title by TKO (punches) in the second round on June 14, 2013.
