They issued a statement apologizing for hiring him without doing a better job of vetting him.
Shane was sacked from the show before he even featured in an episode as a result.
Gillis has since performed stand-up comedy and been on numerous comedy shows, including “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.

In 2023, the comedian is said to be working on a project with fellow SNL cast member Pete Davidson.
Gillis has been cast in the new Peacock comedy series Bupkis, which will premiere in May.
Pete Davidson stars in the program as a fictionalized version of himself, alongside Joe Pesci and Edie Falco.
It also has special appearances by Brad Garrett, Ray Romano, Machine Gun Kelly, Jane Curtin, Jadakiss, and Al Gore.
Despite being booted from SNL earlier for making provocative remarks, Gillis has gotten a role as Davidson’s friend Gilly, who appears to be modeled on himself.

According to Cracked, Gillis’ participation in the series demonstrates how comedians can never truly be “canceled.” Bupkis will make his Peacock debut on May 4, 2023.
