The highlight of Simon’s international career was a test match against India in late December 1998, when he bowled 7/65.
It was New Zealand’s fourth-best bowling performance in a test match inning at the time.
In the official ICC (International Cricket Council) player rankings, his performance earned him a career-high rating of number 6 in the test match format.
He was a non-playing member of the New Zealand side that advanced to the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-finals in 1999.
It was the tournament’s seventh edition (held in May and June 1999) and New Zealand’s fourth semi-final appearance.
All four semi-finals were lost by the team.
