Sunny’s family went to Kuwait for a short time after her birth but returned to South Korea during the Gulf War.
She joined SM Entertainment in 1998 and trained for about 5 years before making her debut.
She eventually switched agencies to Starworld, where her father worked as the manager, and was set to make her debut with the Sugar group. However, things did not go as planned.
She returned to SM Entertainment in early 2007 and completed her training.
She made her formal debut with the girl group Girls’ Generation in August 2007.
She has also performed as a solo artist and has written songs for a variety of television shows and films, including ‘You Don’t Know About Love’ for the SBS drama series Working Mom and ‘Finally Now’ for the interactive film Story of Wine.
