An American journalist who became Editor-in-Chief of the African-American women’s magazine Essence in 1981. Susan L. Taylor was born on January 23, 1946, in New York City, NY. She and Condoleezza Rice were both recipients of the prestigious NAACP President’s Award during the first decade of the 21st Century. She began working for Essence in the magazine’s first year of publication.
