Takuma was named the ‘J.League Rookie of the Year in 2015.
J.League, the organization that comprises and operates the top three divisions of the Japanese professional soccer league system, has presented the award annually since 1993.
In 2016, he was an important player in the Japanese squad that won the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Under-23 Championship.
This was only the tournament’s second edition, following the inaugural event in 2013, and Japan won the title for the first time.
Takuma scored twice (including the game-winning goal in the 81st minute) in Japan’s 3-2 victory over South Korea in the tournament’s final match.
