Crenshaw had been seeing peculiar “black, fuzzy areas” for a few days before visiting an ophthalmologist on Thursday, where he learned his left retina was detaching.
“This is a scary prognosis for someone with one eye, considering the nature of the injuries that I incurred in Afghanistan,” he said on Twitter, adding, “Anyone who understands the history of my injuries knows that I don’t have a ‘good eye,’ but half a good eye……” It was always possible that the symptoms of my retinal damage may manifest again, and this looks to be the case.”
On Friday, Tara drove Crenshaw to the hospital for emergency surgery, where the doctor bandaged his retina and implanted a gas bubble.
“The surgery went well,” he said, “but I’ll be effectively blind for approximately a month.” “This is why you won’t hear from me for a while,” he said.
