Pioneering Abstract Expressionist painter who was a contemporary and friend of Willem De Kooning and Jackson Pollock . Theodoros Stamos was born on December 31, 1922 in New York. He was a close friend of Mark Rothko and served as executor of Rothko’s estate. Unfortunately, Rothko’s daughter sued Stamos for the improper and fraudulent handling of her father’s paintings. He attended the American Artists School, where he became inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. He was taught by Joseph Solman, who belonged to The Ten.
