In 1996, Graves and Craig Silvey opened the restaurant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Graves attended Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and graduated with honors.
Graves and fellow LSU business student Craig Silvey put their business plan through its paces in Silvey’s business plan class. The idea scored a C- in class, with the professor remarking that a chicken-fingers-only firm would never work.
Graves worked at a refinery before joining Silvey as a salmon fisherman to gather the money to construct the first restaurant, which debuted in 1996 directly outside the north gates of Louisiana State University on Highland Road.
