He made his maiden appearance in the main draw of a major tournament in the 2015 US Open when he lost in the first round to Andreas Seppi.

When healthy, the American won the inaugural Oracle Challenger Series stop in New Haven by defeating fellow countryman Marcos Giron in the title match on the tennis courts at Yale University.

Injuries have plagued both Paul, 22, and Giron, 26, as well as his American teammates Michael Mmoh, 21, and Noah Rubin, 23.

Dealing with them has been an essential part of the process as they strive to join contemporaries Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Reilly Opelka as reliable Top-60-level players.

Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston in April.

At the time, Paolo Lorenzi was ranked 53rd. Paul would spend the rest of 2016 largely on the ATP Challenger Tour and the ITF Circuit.
