Early Disney animator and cartoonist who drew the first images of Mickey Mouse; winner of two Academy Awards. Also famous for his Flip the Frog character that was produced through his short-lived Iwerks Studio. Ub Iwerks was born on March 24, 1901, in Missouri. He collaborated with Bob Clampett on two “Looney Tunes” cartoons while under contract with Leon Schlesinger Productions in 1937. He met Walt Disney in 1919 when the two working for Kansas City’s Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio. The two decided to become animators while employed with the Kansas City Film Ad Company.
