His young career began in 2005, when he joined the youth system of CR Flamengo, one of Brazil’s most successful sports clubs in the twentieth century, as a 5-year-old.
Vinicius, who came from a poor family, had to live with his uncle, Ulisses, in order to save money on commuting to the club’s training facility and young team headquarters.
During his stay with the club’s youth system, he received financial assistance from both local businesspeople and the club’s owners. In 2017, Vincius was promoted to the club’s senior professional team.
He won the South American Under-15 Championship with Brazil in 2015.
It was the country’s fourth such title, breaking a record.
