Santos admitted to making up his biography but argued that “my crimes here are inflating my résumé” and that he had no plans to resign from the House of Representatives.

Santos responded to his religious remarks, saying, “I never claimed to be Jewish.”

I’m a devout Catholic. I proclaimed myself “Jew-ish” after finding that my mother’s family was Jewish.

Santos was the first person of Brazilian heritage to be elected to Congress.
