William Hull

American politician who served as the first governor of Michigan from 1805 to 1813. As a soldier, he fought in the American Revolution and was a general in the War of 1812. William Hull was born on June 24, 1753 in Connecticut. He was appointed Governor of Michigan by U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. He attended Yale University and graduated in 1772. He went on to pass the bar in 1775 and joined a militia as soon as the American Revolution broke out.
