His junior career began in 1999, when he entered the youth system of Wydad AC, a Moroccan sports club based in Casablanca, as an 8-year-old.
Yassine began as an outfielder, but due to his height, his coaches advised him to move to goalkeeping.
He remained in the system until 2010 when he was promoted to the senior team of Wydad AC.
In the 2009-10 season, he won the Botola (the top flight in the Moroccan soccer league system) with Wydad AC.
In 2011, he also helped the club reach the final of the CAF (Confederation of African Football, the administrative and regulating body for soccer, futsal, and beach soccer in Africa) Champions League (Africa’s most prestigious club competition).
Yassine was qualified to represent both Canada and Morocco at the international level due to his Canadian birth, Moroccan ethnicity, and residency.
Because of his Canadian citizenship, he was approached around 2011 by the then-manager of the Canadian national team to discuss the idea of his playing for Canada.
