Twentieth-century poet and literary critic best known for The Anatomy of Nonsense and In Defense of Reason. He received the 1961 Bollingen Prize for his Collected Poems. Yvor Winters was born on October 17, 1900 in Illinois. He was influenced by the work of James Joyce. He studied at both the University of Chicago and the University of Colorado. He published two early poetic works – Diadems and Fagots and The Immobile Wind – in 1921.
