Zach Randolph, a professional basketball player with a nearly two-decade career under his belt, is a true NBA veteran. He was drafted in the first round by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2001 and has played for at least four other NBA teams, including the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and the Sacramento Kings, whom he joined in 2017. Among the many highlights of his long career, Randolph was named to the NBA All-Star Games in 2010 and 2013, as well as All-NBA Third Team honors in 2013.

Zach Randolph: Birth and Education

Zach Randolph the veteran NBA player, was born on July 16, 1981, in Marion, Indiana.

Randolph finished second in the Indiana Mr. Basketball voting in 2000, trailing future New York Knicks teammate Jared Jeffries.

Randolph attended Michigan State University for one year of college basketball. In 33 appearances for the Michigan State Spartans as a freshman, he averaged 10.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. At the end of the season, he declared for the 2001 NBA draft.

Zach Randolph: Professional Career

Zach Randolph was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft, 19th overall. After two rather uneventful seasons as a backup, the talented player finally had his breakout season during the 2003–04 season, when he earned a starting spot in the Blazers lineup.

He started all but one of his 80 total appearances, finishing with a scoring average of 20.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. His outstanding season earned him the NBA’s Most Improved Player award. At the end of the season, he was also offered a 6-year contract extension.

Randolph had his best season with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2006–07, which also happened to be his final season with the team. He averaged a career-high 23.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game before being sidelined by a hand injury in March 2007.

In a multi-player trade in July 2007, the NBA star was traded to the New York Knicks. He earned a regular spot in the Knicks lineup and put up a respectable performance during his time with the team.

During his one-year stint with the Knicks, he averaged 18.0 points and 10.6 rebounds per game before being traded to the Lakers.

After only 11 games, he was released by the Clippers in November 2008, midway through his second season (2008–09). He averaged 20.9 points per game in 39 appearances for the Clippers in 2008-09.

In July 2009, he was traded by the Clippers to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Quentin Richardson. Randolph’s eight-year tenure with the Grizzlies is both the longest and most successful of his career.

In his first season with the Grizzlies (2009-10), he started all 81 games, averaged 20.8 points, and was named to the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, his first of a long career.

After a successful 2010-2011 season, he was named to the All-NBA Third Team the following year, and he was also named to his second All-Star game in 2013. Randolph’s tenure with the Grizzlies ended at the end of the 2016-17 season.

The veteran NBA player signed a two-year contract with the Sacramento Kings in July 2017. In his first season with the Kings (2017-18), he averaged 14.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, finishing with a scoring average of 14.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
