Jun-hwan began training for professional ice skating when he was quite young.

He began skating when he was seven years old, while on a school trip. He was being guided at the time by coach Hea-Sook.

Evgeni Plushenko and Daisuke Takahashi are two of his skating idols.

Hwan was a junior skater who won the championship while finishing fourth in the 2011 South Korean Championship.

In addition, he was the winner of the South Korean Championship in 2012, which he won at a young age.

Junhwan Cha won a gold medal at the Asian Trophy in 2012-13, and as a result, he was crowned junior champion at the South Korean Championships for the second time.
