Who is Jaycee Dugard?

Jaycee Dugard is a well-known author and kidnap survivor. Jaycee Dugard’s memoir, ‘A Stolen Life,’ tells the account of her capture and eighteen years in captivity. She is also the creator of The JAYC Foundation, Inc., an organization that assists families who have experienced great life traumas.

Kenneth Slayton and Terry Probyn are the parents of Jaycee. 

Her mother remarried Carl Probyn, with whom she had no relationship.

The Abduction

Dugard was abducted from a roadway while walking to a school bus stop on June 10, 1991. 

Carl, her stepfather, witnessed the abduction and attempted to pursue the van in order to save Jaycee, but he was unable to keep up.

Four witnesses observed Jaycee being kidnapped and quickly notified local officials, who were assisted in their search for Dugard by the FBI. 

They did not, however, detect the kidnapper.

Dugard was just 11 years old at the time she was stolen. 

Phillip Garrido and Nancy Garrido kidnapped her and held her captive for 18 years. 

They also changed her name to Allissa and gave her a new identity.

Phillip sexually and verbally abused her at the time, and raped her repeatedly, resulting in two pregnancies.

Dugard gave birth to her first child, a daughter when she was 14 years old.

Three years later, at the age of 17, she gave birth to her second daughter.

Phillip Garrido and Dugard’s two daughters visited the University of California Berkeley campus on August 24, 2009, to ask about conducting a religious event.

Their strange behavior prompted an investigation and a background check at the time.

And that Garrido was on parole for kidnapping and rape, as well as a registered sex offender.

Garrido and his wife confessed to their crime on August 26, 2009, allowing Dugard to expose her true identity.

They were then apprehended by authorities and charged with 29 felonies, including rape and false imprisonment.
