On September 22, 1977, the Canadian boxing champion was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Although little is known about his family history, he is known to have inverted his given name and family name to arrive at his current name.

Young Adonis moved to Quebec with his family when he was seven years old, and by the age of 14, he was already a street urchin, soon joining a violent gang and embracing a criminal lifestyle.

After a criminal trial in 1988, he was found guilty of assault, issuing threats, and managing prostitutes and received 18 months of a four-year prison sentence.

During his time in prison, he knocked out a fellow inmate who was in a coma, and when he was released in 2001, Adonis vowed never to return.

Adonis began making progress in boxing only four years after his release from prison.

As an amateur boxer, he had an incredible record, winning several titles and accolades, including the 2004 Middleweight title, the Canadian national title in 2005 and 2006, and the silver medal at the XVIII Commonwealth Games in Australia.

This occurred in December 2007, and he was awarded the vacant Canadian 168-pound title.

As his ranking rose, the Canadian boxer continued to climb the success ladder, defeating the likes of Anthony Bonsante, Dhafir Smith, and Jermain Mackey.

Darnell Boone was Adonis’s first professional opponent, and he was defeated in the second round by TKO in April 2010.
