He honed his skills by learning and practicing traditional Japanese Jujutsu grappling methods before becoming a fierce UFC heavyweight competitor. He trained with the K-Dojo Warrior Tribe and competed in two grappling tournaments, winning the Men’s

Black Belt No-Gi Advanced Super weight division in the Grapplers Quest, also known as the ‘Beast of the East 2011′ tournament and placing in an Absolute division in an Eddie Alvarez hosted the grappling tournament.
