Bill Nye was born on November 27, 1955, in Washington, D.C. He began his career with Boeing in Seattle as a mechanical engineer.

Bill appeared in a local Seattle sketch comedy show called Almost Live! in his spare time. When the show’s host mispronounced the word “gigawatt,” Bill corrected him live on the air. “Who do you think you are?” retorted the host. “Bill Nye… the Science DUDE?” Since then, the name has stayed.
