Blair first gained attention in November 2017 when he recorded a hat-trick (the feat of dismissing three batters off three consecutive legal deliveries) in the first innings of Central Districts’ 5th-round Plunket Shield match against Wellington during the 2017-18 season of New Zealand’s premier domestic first-class cricket tournament.
The match was particularly notable for the comparable scores posted by both teams – 171 and 172 for Wellington and 172 and 172/3 for Central Districts.
After the 10th and final round of games, Central Districts (131 points) just edged out Wellington (127 points) to win the Plunket Shield that season.
It was Central Districts’ tenth championship. Blair was his team’s second highest wicket-taker (and the tournament’s ninth-most overall) with 30 wickets in 9 matches.
