She fell in love with basketball while playing for her high school team. Later in her junior year, the power forward averaged 22.3 points and 13.2 rebounds per game, which is rather amazing. However, during her senior year at Cypress Woods High School, she averaged 30.6 points and 15.3 rebounds per game.
In her freshman year, she played 37 games and finished second on the team with 11.8 points per game and first with 6.8 rebounds per game. Later in her career, she was named Pac-12 All-Freshman and Pac-12 Freshman of the Week three times.
With her enthralling maneuvers, she was named the Pac-12’s highest scorer and rebounder among freshmen. In the WNIT in May 2018, she collected 18 rebounds and averaged 14.2 points per game, the best of any freshman since Polk (2002).
In December of her sophomore season 2019-20, she was named Pac-12 Player of the Week twice. Cate finished second on the squad in scoring (13.6 points per game) and led the team in rebounding (7.5 rebounds per game). She finished sixth in the Pac-12 in terms of rebounds per game and 14th in terms of scoring.
She had the sixth-most double-doubles in the Pac-12, and scored a career-high 30 points on 13-15 shooting in the Pac-12 Tournament Quarterfinals on March 6th.
On December 9th, she was named Pac-12 Player of the Week after averaging 17.5 points and 14 rebounds per game while shooting 59 percent. Arizona State won on December 29th with a 17-point, 11-rebound performance. She had at least 20 points in five games and scored in double figures in 23 of them.
