Choi Young-Jae is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actor. Choi Young-Jae is a member of the K-Pop music group “GOT7,” best known by his stage names Ars or Youngjae. He is a powerful vocalist, as well as a superb dancer and entertainer.

Choi dreamed of becoming a singer when he was a toddler when he sang alongside his older brother. He was supposed to be a member of a boy band, but after seven months of training, he eventually joined GOT7 as the front vocalist; the band released the single “Girls Girls Girls” on 16 January 2014, included on their EP “Got It?” which was released four days later, and becoming runner-up in the Gaon Music Chart, South Korea’s main music chart.

Ars Youngjae has had a great solo singing career while performing with GOT7. Since 2014, the band has released 14 EPs, including “Got Love” (2014), “Flight Log: Arrival” (2017), and “I Won’t Let You Go” (2018). (2018). When GOT7 released their fifth EP “Flight Log: Departure” in 2016, Youngjae began recording songs he wrote and orchestrated alone.

One of his favorite quotes, which he even used as the background image of his Twitter account, was ‘Ars Longa, Vita Brevis’ (Latin; said by Hippocrates, in English literally means ‘Art is long, life is short,’ he used the word Ars as his nickname and created his own Soundcloud profile to upload his songs on.

His solo efforts had no effect on his singing with GOT7 and were even appreciated by his managers as an opportunity for him to develop and improve as a performer, composer/songwriter.

Youngjae began working as a songwriter for GOT7 in 2016, co-creating singles such as “Rewind,” “In This Chest,” and “Think About It,” and composing songs such as “Moon U,” “Hesitate,” and “Nobody Knows.”

Youngjae had a successful collaboration in 2017 with Elliott Yamin and Sanjoy, recording the tune “Victim of Love.” In 2018, he took part in a social campaign aimed at suicide prevention, which was organized by the Life Insurance Social Responsibility Foundation.

For this campaign, Youngjae recorded the track “I’m All Ears,” which featured Park Ji-min, and the music video was released on October 15, 2018.

Recent activities

Youngjae and GOT7 had a successful year in 2019, releasing two EPs, “Love Loop” (July – Japan) and “Call My Name” (November – South Korea). Youngjae wrote two of the EPs’ singles, “Time Out” and “Memorandum.”

In 2018, he co-wrote and performed the song “At The Usual Time,” which was placed on the soundtrack of the hit Korean drama “Wok of Love.”
