He met Mitzi McWhorter when he was quite young — Mitzi was also an actor – and they fell in love right away after meeting on the set of a TV show.

Mitzi gave birth to two of their children after they married in 1960, and the marriage lasted until 1983 when they divorced for unclear reasons.

Wayne married Amy Hirsh again in 1988, and the two moved to Destin, Florida in 2001. They both agreed not to have children when they were married, and Amy had no objections to Wayne having two children from a previous marriage.

Following his discharge from the Navy, Wayne landed roles in films and television programs such as “The Invaders,” “The F.B.I.,” “Have Gun, Will Travel,” and a slew of others.

In 1959, he starred in the soap opera “Search for Tomorrow,” and in 1960, he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the film noir “Odds Against Tomorrow.” From 1960 to 1961, he was a member of the core cast of the ABC television series “Stagecoach West.”

Wayne Rogers rose to prominence mostly as a result of his performance in the television series “M*A*S*H.” He was meant to audition for the role of Hawkeye Pierce, but the writers persuaded him to play Trapper instead, with Alan Alda playing Hawkeye.

Wayne was pleased with the direction the show was taking, although he was disappointed that his character was not as well-known as Hawkeye.

After speaking with the authors, they decided to make Trapper a thoracic surgeon, which entirely shifted the focus away from Hawkeye and toward Trapper – despite the fact that this was exactly what Wayne wanted, he was sad for his friend Alan and eventually made things equal for both of them.

Wayne was a three-season regular on the show before departing and retiring from performing.
