He is a native of Melrose, Massachusetts, in the United States. Don is the son of his mother, Maryanna Steele, and his father, Mr. Orsillo.

Unfortunately, his biological father died in August 2017 after a two-year battle with Pancreatic cancer.

Don joined the Padres after veteran Dick Enberg announced his retirement after the 2016 season.

During his sportscaster career, he also worked as a broadcaster and play-by-play voice for the Springfield Falcons from 1994 to 1996.

Don is an MLB play-by-play announcer for TBS in addition to calling the Padres.

Don worked as a play-by-play voice for the Boston Red Sox on NESN before joining the San Diego Padres in 2006. Between 2001 and 2015, he called Red Sox games for 15 years before being controversially fired.

Furthermore, Don had wanted to work for the Red Sox since he was a child. Dave O’Brien took his place after he was fired.

Dave previously worked as a game announcer for the Red Sox Radio Network from 2007 to 2016. Don was tasked with calling Boston College Eagles men’s basketball games on NESN in addition to calling RED SOX games.
