Because working in the music industry didn’t seem promising at the time, and the job market was bad, Riedel chose to try her hand at gold mining, an occupation very different from what she’d studied.

After working with Riedel as a coworker for a while, the crew was approached in 2013 by a team from the reality television series “Bering Sea Gold,” who offered them an opportunity they couldn’t refuse.

The immensely popular series comes from the creators of the Emmy-winning show “Deadliest Catch,” which is produced for Discovery Channel by Original Productions.
