She traveled around the world to hone her skills, and was also active in community theatre, mostly performing in her hometown of Seattle. Dumont found acting work early on when she was cast in the film “True Adolescents” marking her film debut. The film starred Mark Duplass and Bret Loehr, and was aired at the South by Southwest Film Festival.

The following year, she continued working on films, including “Dear Lemon Lima”, a comedy based on a short film of the same name, telling the story of a girl who experiences her first heartbreak in Alaska. She took these roles early on, as they were filmed in and around her hometown.

In 2010, she participated in a model search contest held by “V” magazine, which is a fashion publication that has been in existence since 1999. She won the contest, and as a result, got a contract with Ford Models. She’s since modeled around the world in locations such as China, Tokyo, New York, Hong Kong, and Los Angeles.

After working on the pilot for the NBC show “Metro”, she was then cast in her first notable television project called “Bunheads”, in which she appeared alongside Sutton Foster and Kelly Bishop playing the character Melanie Segal, who is a dance student at an academy.

Emma Dumont appeared in “Bunheads” for a year before moving on to other projects. She worked on the independent film “Nobody Walks”, alongside the likes of John Krasinski, Dylan McDermott, and Jane Levy.
