George Hill Hodel- Professional Career

Hodel’s aide Ruth Spaulding from a heroin overdose in 1945 drew the attention of authorities.

According to reports, Hodel committed financial fraud, including paying his patients for unneeded testing.

He was suspected of murdering Spaulding in order to conceal his schemes. However, he was never proven guilty.

Elizabeth Short, a native of Boston, spent a significant amount of her life in Florida and Massachusetts before relocating to Los Angeles.

Despite the fact that she had no known acting credits during her time in Los Angeles, she was apparently a budding actress.

In January 1947, she was having an affair with married man Robert Manley.

She went on vacation with him to San Diego and returned on January 9.

Six days later, her remains were discovered in a vacant lot on the west side of South Norton Avenue.

Her body was split in half at the waist and she was fully naked. Furthermore, the blood had completely dried up.

The case sparked widespread media and public interest.

People were startled, and the Los Angeles Police Department conducted one of its largest-ever investigations.

Initially, there were over 150 suspects.

The authorities were able to reduce the list to 25 after conducting extensive interrogation. Hodel was one of them.

As a result of his daughter Tamar’s participation in his public trial, the police began to blame him of murdering Short.

He drew special attention because of his medical training—it had already been proven that only a trained surgeon could have accurately separated Short’s body.
