American poet, academic, translator, and literary critic known for Medusa in Gramercy Park, Another Look, and other works. He was a 1965 recipient of the prestigious Bollingen Prize. Horace Gregory was born on April 10, 1898 in Wisconsin. He was a literary contemporary of fellow American poet/scholar Ann Stanford. He studied at the University of Wisconsin and later taught English at Sarah Lawrence College. He published his debut poetry collection, Chelsea Rooming House, in 1930.
