It is accused of pushing defective homes through Mike’s ‘Holmes Approved Homes’ scheme.
The company is accused of creating and marketing more than a dozen properties in Meaford, Ontario, which homeowners claim have “numerous deficiencies.”
Andrea Hart and Myles Johnson of Toronto purchased a House in 2016 while looking for a location to retire.
“We trusted the name,” Andrea, 65, explained. “A Mike Holmes-approved home.”
Mike promoted TerraceWood by appearing on a billboard in Meaford, praising the builder in a YouTube video, and making visits.
According to a statement received by CTV News Toronto, The Holmes Group is one of approximately a dozen parties collaborating in the housing construction.
Tarion, a consumer protection organization, filed the $8-million case in December 2021.
It accuses Third Line Homes of constructing residences where the owners suffered from a variety of issues such as leaks, mold, and structural flaws.
Mary-Jo and Paul Osbornof, the principals and officers of Third Line Homes, are also mentioned in the complaint.
Tarion further argues that the Company did not correct the problems or process warranty claims.
It claims to have paid for the repairs out of its own money.
The houses in question are located on Gordan Crescent in Meaford, a Georgian Bay hamlet located 100 kilometers northwest of Barrie.
In court, none of the charges were proven. So far, no charges or arrests have been made.
