John Simm began his career on the more experienced side of his life in 1992.

He was a founding member, composer, and guitarist with the rock band Magic Alex between the 1990s and the 2000s.

He also appeared in an episode of Rumpole of the Bailey as Joby Johnson.

Simm subsequently went on to play a variety of characters, including a madman in The Bill, a lovestruck schoolboy in Heartbeat, and a drugged-up criminal in The Locksmith, during which time he honed his on-screen style.
