He is best recognized for his novels Rayuela, Los Premios, and Book of Manuel. Julio Cortazar was born on August 26, 1914 in Belgium. His story Las Babas del Diablo was the inspiration for Michelangelo Antonioni‘s feature film Blowup. Beginning his career as an elementary school teacher, he later studied philosophy and languages at the University of Buenos Aires. He went on to publish his first novel Book of Manuel in 1973.
