Luke Russert rose to prominence as a National Broadcasting Company broadcast news correspondent (NBC). Tim Russert, his father, also worked for NBC News for nearly two and a half decades. He worked as the moderator of “Meet the Press” for more than half of his time at NBC News. Luke, who had just graduated from college, began working for NBC News in August 2008, six weeks after his father died.

Luke worked for NBC News until 2016 when he decided to leave the company. Fans and colleagues were taken aback by his decision. Russert had to clarify that he is not moving to a competing news outlet, as implied, but is simply taking a break from political reporting. As a correspondent based in Washington, D.C., Russert covered the House of Representatives for “NBC Nightly News,” “Today,” MSNBC, and NBCNews.com.

Luke Russert gained widespread public acclaim for his coverage of the 2008 Presidential election. Luke Russert: Birth, Parents, & Education

Luke Russert comes from a family that is passionate about journalism. While his late father, Tim Russert, was the longest-serving moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” his mother is an award-winning journalist, Vanity Fair Magazine’s Special Correspondent, and the founder of the Marina Orth Foundation.

Lucas Russert was Luke’s birth name. On August 22, 2017, he celebrated his 32nd birthday. He was born in Washington, D.C. in 1985.

According to records, he graduated from St. Albans School in the United States capital in 2004.

Luke also holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in communications from Boston College. That was back in 2008.

Later, he received an honorary degree from Wingate University in North Carolina.

Luke Russert: Professional Career

Luke Russert’s career can be traced back to his time at Boston College when he worked for ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption.” In addition, he and James Carville co-hosted the XM Radio show “60/20 Sports.”

On the last day of July 2008, NBC News announced its decision to hire Russert as an NBC News correspondent covering the 2008 United States Presidential Election.

The following year, he would focus on covering Congress, particularly the House of Representatives.

NBC has credited Luke with the success of most of its prominent political reports, including the Fiscal Cliff fight in 2012, the 2011 debt limit crisis, the Republican Resurgence in 2010, and the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

Russert has also appeared as a guest host on MSNBC shows such as “Way Too Early,” “The Daily Rundown with Chuck Todd,” “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” “NOW with Alex Wagner,” and “The Cycle.”

It was a big deal in 2010 when Rep. Charlie Rangel, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee at the time, apologized to Russert for verbally attacking the journalist for his questions about a report that found the congressman illegally solicited donations using official Congressional stationary and failed to disclose his shady real estate holdings.

The following year, This time, the spotlight was on him because he was the first journalist to secure an interview with Rep.

Anthony Weiner after it was revealed that the congressman sent inappropriate pictures to young women via the internet. Shortly after the interview, Weiner resigned from Congress.

Luke Russert: Relationship Status

When Luke Russert was caught on camera screaming “He said yes” from the Capitol Rotunda’s rooftop, everyone assumed he was gay. He was referring to Jake Sherman, his best friend.

While waiting for the Russert and Sherman wedding date, it became clear that the dudes were simply messing with everyone’s heads. It was an April Fool’s joke. And, when it circulated and was later confirmed that, all doubts were dispelled. They eventually married on February 15, 2015.
