Matt Keough – Professional Career

Keough started his professional baseball career as an infielder. 

He later pitched when his performance in double-A was unsatisfactory.

He joined the Oakland Athletics in 1977. 

On September 3, 1977, he made his Major League Baseball debut with the team. 

In his first year of 1978, he pitched in the All-Star Game with an ERA of 3.24.

The following season, he finished with a winning percentage of 0.105.

However, he made an amazing comeback in 1980, going 16-13. 

He was named AL Comeback Player of the Year the same year.

Moving on, his career ended in 1982, with 18 losses and 11 victories in the season.

The Athletics traded him to the New York Yankees in mid-1983.

He was a member of the team for a year, till 1984. 

He later played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1985 and the Chicago Cubs in 1986.

He joined the Hanshin Tigers in Japan in 1987. He pitched for the team for three years, until 1990.

Following that, he attempted to play for the Anaheim Angels, but was unsuccessful. 

His professional baseball career ended in 1992 when he was injured.

After retiring as a pitcher, he pursued a career as a pitching instructor for the Angels. 

He also served as an executive with the team until 1999.

 He later joined the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He is currently an executive for the Oakland Athletics.
