Following their initial meeting, the two met in their hometowns of Aberdeen and Salt Lake City. He proposed to her three years later, in 2012, near her house. ‘I just said very simply, Elizabeth Ann Smart, will you marry me?’ he recalls. I wasn’t nervous back then.’
