His mother, a retired kindergarten teacher, and father, a businessman in the oil industry, raised him.

Matthew is the younger of two brothers. As part of a high school exchange program, McConaughey spent a year in Australia.

McConaughey’s career began with ads on television, but his big break came in 1993 with a supporting role in the film Dazed and Confused.

His performance in the film made him an instant fan favorite, and his line “All right, all right, all right” has since become a pop-culture classic.
