The 61-year-old was previously in charge of Tipperary, Laois, and Limerick.

He was Limerick’s manager for six years, leading them to Division 1 and Munster titles in 2004 and 2003, forcing Kerry to a replay in the latter.

He also led Limerick’s U21 team to consecutive Munster victories and an All-Ireland final appearance.
