He was born Horst Christian Simco on January 29, 1982 in Houston, Texas, where he attended Langham Creek High School and played shooting guard for his school’s basketball team until walking out his senior year.

He earned his GED and enrolled at Hibbing Community College in Hibbing, Minnesota, where he played basketball for the school’s team.

He skipped out in 2003 and returned to Houston, where he obtained a job painting cars in the then-popular “candy-colored” style and gradually began to develop his new identity as Riff Raff.

He rose to prominence in 2008, when he began releasing music and films fusing performance art and slapstick comedy on MySpace and YouTube under the moniker “MTV Riff Raff.”

His viral videos landed him a position on MTV’s reality show “From G’s to Gents.” His rising popularity on YouTube led to his contract with S.O.D. Money Gang, Inc. in 2011.

He also began performing with fellow rap artists and comedians Dirt Nasty and Simon Rex. He quit Money Gang, Inc. in 2012 and signed with Diplo’s Mad Decent label.

His YouTube account has approximately 170 million views, and his mixtapes have been critically and commercially successful.
