Troy Aikman’s Biography & Career
Troy Aikman was the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback for 12 seasons. He was the Cowboys’ first-round choice in 1989 and won numerous trophies throughout his tenure with the team, including six Pro Bowl selections and the Super Bowl XXVII MVP trophy. He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and currently works as a Fox Network sportscaster.
During his playing career, Aikman was the highest-paid player in the NFL when he signed an eight-year, $50 million contract with the New York Jets in 1993, which included an $11 million signing bonus. His compensation at the time of his retirement was $7.5 million.
His annual pay as a Fox commentator is $1 million. Aside from football, Aikman is an active investor. He is a part-owner of the San Diego Padres and a former co-owner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing team, Hall of Fame Racing, with fellow former Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach.
He is now a partner and spokesman for IDLife, and he just gained millions when a local restaurant named Wingstop, which he frequented during his Dallas Cowboys days (and eventually held shares in), went public.
